IEEE 802.15.4e is the standard that they reference, and the IETF draft is about the IPv6 implementation across channel hopping, specifically for low power mesh networks.
I believe that using IPv6 with Arduino components is a great match for geographically dispersed low power sensors. Working on low cost water management applications for small to medium farms and ranches among many other potential projects.
