Modular certification

Any thoughts on making flutter modular certified so it can be included in other products? Really the only things required for this are filling out an extra form and putting a shield over the transceiver. This would really be a huge advantage and gateway to volume orders.

Heh, I think it's just a small crowd so far.

This is an excellent question, and one I haven't asked the certification house about since we started the campaign. I just sent them a message asking about it, so we'll see if I need to do anything extra for that. We do plan on selling to manufacturers to include Flutter in a final product, so module certification is important. I've been focusing so much on RF parameters that module things slipped my mind.

OK thanks. Beware that test houses often give very conservative (and sometimes wrong) interpretations of the FCC rules so be sure to check other wireless module filings to see what has been done.

I'm not totally familiar with that, it's like certification to include this board in other products, or what?

Yes it means you can drop it into other products and not have to repeat all the expensive testing. Applicable in the US and Canada.

So I see there is no shielding on the final hardware. I guess this means you are applying for limited modular certification, which is sort of a gray area as far as dropping into other products without a full retest.

Yeah, the design never originally had room for the metal can, and it wasn't until things really got locked down that I saw that the metal can is in fact a hard requirement for modular certification and not just a recommendation.

For now a full re-test will be involved, but with the performance we saw when we tested you can rest assured it will pass. We will provide assistance to anyone getting certified. Hopefully in the future we will have other hardware options that can include modular certification.

Well i'm not sure that it requires a full ground perimeter so it could have still worked with a few attachment points. But it will still have limited modular certification, right? Can you post the FCC id?

I am finalizing the paperwork this month, so I will post the FCC ID once I do that.
