Yup the Moteino is great for many of the same use cases I switched to them over a year ago as a temp solution hoping that this project would come through. However it proved to be a solid platform. It supports decent encryption and the ability to do over the air updates sets it apart from most.
Felix at LowPowerLabs, the maker of the Moteino, is very responsive and has even incorporated community feedback and work into new designs over the years. He has even helped with a bunch of opensource projects that didn't use his hardward (like porting the RFM69 library to the particle photon)
However as a founder of a startup myself I can tell you there are some seriously dark times. You have to keep pouring into others to keep up their spirits and make sure your investors and business partners are happy. You don't want to let all of them down so you can have a tenancy to back away from everyone and everything
However I still think Talor is a stand up guy he is just not a natural communicator and got in a bit over his head. That is not a bad thing as that is how you have personal growth. Even though he did update the kickstarter page on November 18th he needs help fighting through the chalanges and learn to communicate more effectivly /frequently.
If Talor asked for help I bet he could still get a few people that live in San Jose bay are to come over. Hell I would help with fulfillment just to be able to pick his brain while doing it :smilwink:
